Trading and shops

NPC shops that never run out, buying from any vending machine on the map with /trade, finding buyers with /sell, your own vending machine and trading in Blood.

Every shop on the island, NPC or player, is one command away. NPC shops charge the same fixed price everywhere and never sell out, and /trade lets you buy from any of them without leaving your base.

NPC shops

  • Fixed prices. Prices never go up when people buy (Rust's dynamic pricing is off), and each item has one price in every shop that sells it.
  • Never out of stock. NPC shops restock themselves before every purchase, so you can buy as much as you can pay for.
  • Most shops take scrap. Some buy from you instead and pay scrap, and a few swap goods for goods.

The biggest market is the Town: 19 shops, with every trade listed on its page. The monuments keep a few shops of their own:

Buying from anywhere: /trade

/trade (0 after /binds) lists every offer on the map: all NPC shops, and every player vending machine that is broadcasting. Search by name (/trade <item>) or browse by category. Offers are sorted by price and the cheapest is marked.

  • Buy remotely. Open any listed shop from the window and buy as if you were standing at it. The goods go straight into your inventory.
  • One line per NPC offer. Every copy of an NPC shop sells the same thing at the same price, so the same offer is shown once ("NPC shop, 6 places"), with the Town's copy first.
  • Player machines show up only while their owner has broadcasting switched on.
  • Favourites. Save up to five pages (a category, an item or a shop) in the window and open them again with /trade f1 to /trade f5. /trade info lists them.

Finding a buyer: /sell

/sell (- after /binds) shows the items you carry. Pick one and it lists every shop that takes that item as payment: NPC shops that buy it for scrap, and players who sell something for it.

When your inventory is full

A purchase that would not fit in your inventory and belt is refused, at any machine, in person or through /trade. The message tells you how many slots to free. A stack your payment uses up completely counts as a free slot.

Your own vending machine

  • Place a vending machine, stock it and set your prices as usual. Switch on broadcasting and it appears on the map and in everyone's /trade, and players can buy from it wherever they are.
  • Price it in anything, Blood included. Blood is an item, so it works as a currency like scrap does.
  • Your own offers get an EDIT button in /trade, so you can change an amount or a price without walking back to the machine. Adding or removing offers still happens at the machine.
  • If you rent a shop, nobody else can take it over.

Vending machines in raid bases

A vending machine inside a raid base is a loot box, not a shop. Nothing in it can be bought, and its offers cannot be changed. Get round to the back of it and open it to take the loot.

Blood and RP

NPC shops deal in scrap, and players trade in whatever they like, often Blood. /blood (U after /binds) swaps RP for Blood in steps of 10, 100, 1,000 or 10,000, and banks the Blood you carry back into RP, one for one with no fee. Bank your Blood before the wipe: Blood wipes with the map, RP does not.
